Claire Law founded Educational Avenues in 1998 following a very successful career in a number of education related positions. She found that her background of college admissions work, career counseling and financial aid provisioning, crystallized in her, a calling to work directly with students in helping them make the best selections for college and career preparation.

 

Over the past several years Claire has developed the Educational Avenues practice into a highly effective service provider that has helped hundreds of students and their families select the right college, boarding or private school that best supports the student's strengths. Importantly, she has also recognized the need  for finding appropriate educational settings for those students with special needs and learning differences and has been highly successful in placing these students in programs where they can not only learn to overcome their issues, but to thrive in their new environment.

Claire holds a BA in Psychology from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, and an MS in Human Development with a concentration in College Student Personnel, from the University of Rhode Island.  Her action research deals with "College Congruity and Student Success".

 

Claire consistently educates the public regarding the latest trends in school selection and placement with her bi-weekly participation on WHJJ’s the Helen Glover Show and her articles and opinions published in a number of Rhode Island and South Carolina forums. She is currently authoring book relating personality type to college selection and success potential.

Her work experience includes:

· Director of International Recruitment - The Art Institutes International (Education Management Corporation) Pittsburgh, PA  

· Assistant Director of Admission - Art Institute of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA  

· Admissions Officer - Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada  

· Claire also has extensive experience with respect to college financial aid having worked for AMS-Education Loan Trust a leading lender in the college loan business.

· Claire is directly involved in a number of key organizations relating to her educational consulting work including:

· Member and committee participant of IECA: Independent Education Consultants Association. Claire is a professional member and has achieved the highest level of certification with IECA: the CEP (Certified Educational Planner). Chip Law is a co-founder of Educational Avenues .  He joined the practice full time in 2001 and has been instrumental in expanding the scope of Educational Avenues’ services to include additional key educational service sectors that relate to the needs of Educational Avenues parents and students.

Prior to his involvement with Educational Avenues, Chip held a number of executive positions with major corporations including Johnson & Johnson, Digital Equipment, IBM and GTECH. In his executive role, Chip had to frequently assist his staff with educational choices. Having mentored and assisted in the career development of many young people throughout the years, Chip brings considerable real world experience when helping students identify careers, planning job searches, preparing resumes and practicing interviewing skills.

 

In addition to his BA in Psychology from Rutgers University and in-depth experience with career development, he has had extensive training in the areas of substance abuse, sexual harassment, organizational behavior and disciplinary protocol. He has a firm grasp of the subsequent effect these issues can have on behavior outcomes and the impact to one’s future.

 

Chip has visited and formed relationships with over 75 boarding schools, 15 wilderness programs and 40 emotional growth and residential treatment schools and programs. Over the past few years Chip has had many articles pertaining to troubled teens, crisis intervention and treatment planning published in both Rhode Island and South Carolina papers. He is an associate member of IECA.

 

In addition to college placement, Chip has expertise is the following areas:

 

· Providing placement for families considering boarding or private schools (5th grade and up)  

· Providing families with struggling teens with assessment options, placement in intervention    program and treatment facilities  

· Providing families with program transition placement and counsel  

· Providing educational options the for high school seniors not quite ready for college

· Providing career counseling (teens through adult) in the areas of personality testing, resume preparation, career selection planning as well as interviewing and networking skill development
